HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A warm aloha for a new restaurant in the Ala Moana area.

Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House on Kapiolani Boulevard is the first Hawaii location for upscale F&B company Chubby Group from the continent.

With more than 15 locations across the U.S., Chubby Group is known for its unique Asian dining concepts — from Chinese hot pot to Japanese BBQ to wagyu shabu shabu.

What makes this concept so unique is that they use premium wagyu from Japan, Australia and the U.S. and you can eat as much as you like… for 90 minutes.

On Saturday, Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi, state lawmakers and business leaders celebrated the grand opening of the first-of-its-kind concept in Hawaii.

Restaurateur Jack Zhang is Chubby Group’s regional partner and plans to open more Hawaii restaurants for the group next year

“We plan to have more in Maui or Big Island and also we’ll have another Chubby Cattle BBQ here,” said April, a spokesperson for the Chubby Group. “This location has the most value wagyu they can enjoy indoor and outdoor. This location also is the first location for Mikiya that has an outdoor dining experience.”

“We want to be here. People are friendly also, there’s a lot of Japanese restaurants with Japanese concepts. We provide a lot of good quantity of Japan’s wagyu. That’s why we always want to be part of Hawaii,”

Mikiya is located at 1221 Kapiolani Blvd. at Pensacola. The all-you-can-eat shabu experience ranges from $70 to $100, features premium wagyu cuts from around the world, including A5 wagyu from Japan, various broths and dipping sauces, seafood platters, wagyu nigiri, wagyu bone marrow and more.
